Enjoy the Holidays by Following These Home Appliance Tips

The holiday season is approaching, bringing all the fun festivities of this memory-filled time. Everyone has different traditions, like decorating the home, putting up twinkling lights, or cooking a special meal. As a matter of fact, many of the most popular holiday traditions involve delicious meals and treats, from turkey for Thanksgiving to winter cookies.

That means that a functioning kitchen is essential to celebrate the holidays without a hitch. The last thing you want when cooking for your family is kitchen appliances that aren’t working their best. Don’t let household dilemmas ruin your festivities: Add the following three home appliance tips to your holiday checklist to ensure a truly magical season for you and your loved ones.

Make Sure You Deep Clean before You Cook

Cleaning is always a priority when you are going to play host, even if this year the gathering is a little smaller than you planned. Before you dive into deep cleaning the rest of your home, give your most-used appliances some detailed attention.

If your appliances could use a little love, you are not alone. In a survey of more than 381,000 appliances, Consumer Reports calculated that 6 percent of respondents reported problems with cooking elements not lighting or heating up on ranges, while 5 percent of people reported refrigerators that didn’t cool properly. An even larger 11 percent of people said their dishwashers stopped properly cleaning. These luckily are problems that can be fixed with some good scrubbing and TLC.

During your cleaning routine this season, pull the fridge away from the wall and clean out the dust from the mechanical coils . Deep clean your oven and stove top, checking all the burners and elements heat and ignite properly. If you are having problems with your dishwasher, you can clean it by setting a single dishwasher-safe cup of white vinegar on the top rack and running a full cycle. These extra steps will help ensure a happier holiday season.

Test Out Your Meal before the Day Arrives

Practice makes perfect, especially in the kitchen. If you or your appliances are a little rusty, one important home appliance tip is to test out your meal before the holidays. Make some dishes you are planning on cooking, or even just a meal of similar size with the same appliances you are going to use on the big day. Then be sure to load up the dishwasher to make sure your dishes come out clean. If you find any issues, you will have plenty of time to schedule maintenance and repairs, so everything will be in perfect shape in time for your socially distanced meal.
